Pine Cove Orientation begins in 1 hour and 15 minutes.

So I am here in Tyler, Tx... my home away from home. (I have quite a few homes away from home at this point). I've been here almost a week working and preparing for the 180 staff that come this week for orientation. It's been a great week, painting theme night decorations, planning, thinking about how to make this summer incredible for the campers and just meeting staff. I really feel so confident in God's calling me here this summer.

When I think about all my friends and family all over the place it really warms my heart. I know yall are all living life right where God has placed you, and I am honored to be serving alongside yall as ambassadors for Christ in each of our own parts of the world. I hope that these updates (every weekend) will be funny and entertaining as well as good picture of what I learn every summer when confined to a small space called the Pine Cove Towers for a week at a time where God does some incredible things.

I will be heading to another wedding next weekend... oh the joys of being a college senior. Updates like this can be quite bland but that's about all I've got...

as the years go by...

the sweet goodness of Amy Grant:
"And oh how the years go by
And oh how the love brings tears to my eyes
All through the changes the soul never dies
We fight, we laugh, we cry
As the years go by..."

This is a montage... (a very short one) of the life of "Kimberly Clark" (the togetherness of Cassidy Clark and Kimberly Ginnings whose friendship will forever be solidified by the Kimberly Clark toilet paper holders in public bathrooms)The picture above is from Sr. High Beach Camp the summer after senior year of high school. We were on the bus holding on to the luggage racks, swinging down. We thought it was funny.

This picture is from sophomore year of college when a few of us drove to Dallas to see Nichole Nordeman and someone else in concert. I just went to see Nichole so I don't remember much else. I HAD to hear "Brave" played on the piano. It really was awesome.

And now finally, this past week in Austin. We were celebrating a friend's wedding. More than anyone else in my life, I will be in more weddings with Cassidy. She and I have the same group of best friends from high school (including each other) and the same group of close friends in college. We have 5 weddings this year alone, outside of the ones we've already had.

Cassidy and I have lived in the same town, and relatively in the same neighborhood all our lives. We've been involved in the same things and had the same friends. Cassidy is one of those friends who is so different from me in personality but yet understands me in ways that most people never could. I have been blessed by this friendship in so many ways and am excited to see what happens for her in the next 4 years as she enters nursing school in San Antonio. She will do great things, be looking for her name... she may cure cancer, considering she has diagnosed most of my illnesses in college.

Life can be so hard sometimes. Good, but hard. To leave your close friends and move on with life...

onward to Pine Cove today. say a prayer for me.

College through the eyes of a bear?

As I type this, I have one final left of my "first" senior year. It is quite a time of reminiscing since the majority of my closest friends will not be here when I return next spring. With every day the past week and a half, I have just pondered the incredible friendships I've been blessed with through college thus far and the wonderful memories I have made. Those memories range from wonderful, heartfelt, hard conversations to things like this...

After a typical late Monday night at Paige/Noel/Marge's place I got home. It was around 11 pm and I found Kristen alone sitting on the couch. I was tired and extremely disgusting and ready to go to bed, but instead this conversation occurred.
Kristen: "We should do something. We only have two nights left together so we should do something."
Me: "Like what? Go to sonic and get a drink or something?"
Kristen: "I mean yeah, we could do that... OR we could do something with Humphrey!" (Humphrey is our large stuffed bear that lives in our living room)
Me: "Like take him into Sweet Eugene's and try to find a table with him or order him a drink!"
Kristen: "Yeah... well... I don't know. I just wanna do something."
(ponder, ponder, ponder)

This is what we came up with:

This is Humphrey at the Administration Building on campus... a beautiful representation of our college experience.

This is Humphrey in front of Blue Baker. I think Blue Baker probably made more money off of me in college than any other establishment in my entire life... possibly including Texas A&M... err, maybe not, it's a toss up. (No pun intended).

This is me slyly holding Humphrey up on the porch of the Kappa house. I just love this for so many reasons. I think deep down he bleeds blue and blue.

This is me and Humphrey kickin it around College Station after midnight...

College. yep, that's what I love about it. :)

i will die with my head tilted sideways...

You know how there are things that you just absolutely love but you forget every once in a while, then one day you remember, and the fondness of that thing comes back to you as if you have just realized your love for the first time...

that is how I feel about Half Price Books.

The awkward crick I get in my neck from walking around with my head tilted sideways to read the bindings of the cheapest books around is totally worth it. Every single time I go there I remember once again how awesome it is. Why? If you know me you know I love bargains (reference my post two down) AND you know I love to read... thus, Half Price Books is like a small glimpse of Kimberly heaven.

Today's bargains included: Frommer's Buenos Aires guide (for my travels next semester), CLEP Spanish Language (in order to communicate next semester) and a CD of NPR's Piano Jazz with special guest Steely Dan (for my sanity next semester).

Thank you Half Price Books for making this world a better place.
